Fresh Farms will have promotable volumes of all grapes by May 15
Fresh Farms will have promotable volumes of all grapes by May 15
Mexico will have the earliest start on its grape deal in at least five years, according to Jerry Havel, director of sales and marketing for Fresh Farms, located in Rio Rico, AZ.
By May 15, Mexico will be shipping a full volume of table grapes and retailers will certainly have plenty of promotable volumes for the Memorial Day holiday.
On April 2, Havel told The Produce News that, as of May 1, Fresh Farms will be shipping Perlette and Prime green seedless grapes. There will be very small volumes on the market in the last days of April, he added.
Around May 5, Fresh Farms will be shipping Flame seedless grapes, and about May 20, the firm will offer Summer Royal black grapes. By May 25, Fresh Farms will be solidly into its shipping season for Mexican Sugraone grapes.
All of Fresh Farms’ grapes will be shipped under the “Fresh Farms” label.
Fresh Farms will be shipping “heavy” grape volumes throughout North America. The firm has been exporting grapes for six years. This year, it will be shipping to England, the Far East, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore and small volumes to New Zealand. Most of the fruit bound for Asia is transported by sea. The English-market fruit is shipped by sea and air, Havel said.
“It is all working well” in the export marketing.
Havel said this crop of Mexican grapes “is very, very nice. We will have promotable volume and the world is ready for a new crop of Mexican grapes. We will start earlier, which gives a longer season. We will have a full eight-week season.”
The Mexican deal is expected to end in late June.
