FPFC holds annual City of Hope luncheon
CERRITOS, CA — Industry professionals packed the Sheraton Cerritos Aug. 6, here, for the annual Fresh Produce & Floral Council/City Of Hope Luncheon. This year, the Southern California Produce & Floral Division of the Food Industries Circle raised more than $250,000 for the City of Hope, one of the premier cancer-treatment centers in the United States.
Jan DeLyser, vice president of marketing for the California Avocado Commission, gave a stirring speech regarding her own fight with breast cancer and how the City Of Hope's research department is helping in the battle against all types of cancer. Delyser told the story of how she found out that she had cancer after receiving a phone call on the golf course. She ended her speech with a quote from famed golfer Ben Hogan: "As you walk down the fairway of life, you must smell the roses, for you only get to play one round."
Consolidated West Distributing was the recipient of the City Of Hope's Spirit of Life Award for the company's tireless dedication in helping to raise money for the City Of Hope.
