Sweet potatoes are booming for Farm Fresh Produce in Faison, NC, a marketer and distributor of a wide range of fruits and vegetables.
Husband-and-wife owners and operators, Steven Ceccarelli and Bethany Malcolm, were exhibiting at Fruit Logistica in Berlin when they spoke to The Produce News.
“We started Farm Fresh two years ago,” said Mr. Ceccarelli. “It was something new for me. I moved from Canada, and produce, especially sweet potatoes, sounded like an exciting challenge. We have really enjoyed the industry.”
Farm Fresh Produce also handles citrus, grapes, squashes, stone fruits, onions and cucumbers, as well as other products.
“The produce industry is about dedication,” said Mr. Ceccarelli. “We’ll work day and night to ensure that when quality produce leaves our doorstep, it arrives in our customers’ hands in the same way.”
Farm Fresh Produce works with a number of suppliers, all of whom meet its high standards for quality. Mr. Ceccarelli said that it works with grower-partners, feeling that growers should do what they do best — grow — and leave the marketing to experts like Farm Fresh.
Sweet potatoes, said Mr. Ceccarelli, are a booming and growing product. The company handles a full range of varieties, including Beauregard, Nema Gold, Jewel and Covington.
The couple enjoyed Fruit Logistica, and said the show is important as the company does a strong international business. “Although we’re based in North Carolina, we have worldwide sensibilities,” said Mr. Ceccarelli. “Our customers span the globe, and we can ship by land, sea or air to make sure produce arrives as fresh, crisp and tasty as possible.”
