EurepGAP elects new board
EurepGAP has announced its new board of directors. The board has four retailer and four supplier seats.
From the retail and foodservice side of the industry are board members Alfons Schmid, vice president of food safety and consumer affairs of Holland-based Ahold, Horst Lang of Globus SB Warenhaus in Germany, Johann Zueblin of Migros, and Stephen Ridge, technical solutions director of U.K. retailer Somerfield.
Supplier members are Benito Orihuel, manager of the quality department of Spain's Anecoop S. Coop.; Josse de Baerdemaeker, chairman of the board of Belgium's fruit and vegetable cooperative BRAVA cvba; Steve Homer of Flamingo Holdings; and Bert Urlings, director of quality and environment for Holland's Vion Food Group.
At the board meeting, Nigel Garbutt was unanimously re- elected as chairman of EurepGAP. Mr. Garbutt said, "The establishment of the EurepGAP board brings together the governance of the various good agricultural practice standards into one place and as such represents a major milestone in our 10-year history."
The first meeting of this new board took place Jan. 10 in Cologne, Germany. According to EurepGAP, the board set a key goal at its first meeting of ensuring that there is a wide and inclusive consultation on the revised standards so that they will meet the needs of the 21st century consumer as well as reflecting the tightening of E.U. regulations.
