EPC holds last meeting before summer break
PATERSON, NJ — The Eastern Produce Council held its final dinner-meeting Tuesday evening, June 24, here at The Brownstone, before taking a little time off for its traditional summer break.
Earthbound Farm and House Foods co-sponsored the meeting, which was originally scheduled to take place this past winter but had to be canceled due to bad weather.
The James & Thersea Nolan Family Foundation awarded a $5,000 scholarship to the winner of its essay contest. Shown were Theresa Nolan; essay winner Jordan Goldman; Jordan's father, Marc Goldman; EPC Executive Director John McAleavey; and EPC President Paul Kneeland.This rescheduling prompted EPC President Paul Kneeland of Kings Food Markets to quip in his opening remarks, "Welcome to our January meeting!"
Yoko DiFrancia of House Foods talked a little about her company, then an improvisational comedy group performed a history of Earthbound Farm, which was founded in 1984 by Drew and Myra Goodman and which was represented at the EPC meeting by Jill Mazer.
Following the presentations by the co-sponsors, the Eastern Produce Council announced that Jordan Goldman, who will start his sophomore year this fall at Penn State University, had won a $5,000 scholarship from the James & Theresa Nolan Family Foundation for his winning entry in the foundation's essay contest.
The next meeting of the Eastern Produce Council is scheduled for Sept. 16 at The Manor in West Orange, NJ, which will be co-hosted by the Idaho Potato Commission and Tasti-Lee Tomatoes/Bejo-Seeds Inc.
