DRC to provide trading assistance directly to its members
The Dispute Resolution Corp. and Blue Book Services jointly announced plans to reconfigure their six-year working arrangement whereby Blue Book Services had provided trading assistance services on the DRC's behalf to its members.
By mid-summer 2005, the DRC will independently provide such services to its members located in Canada, the United States and Mexico from its Ottawa, ON, headquarters. DRC and Blue Book Services will continue to build on their strong working relationship as they enter into this new phase of their strategic alliance.
"Since 1999, DRC members have consistently received exemplary service and reliable advice from Blue Books trading assistance team," said Stephen Whitney, DRC president and CEO. We are grateful that the combination of Blue Books industry credibility and their staffs expertise enabled the DRCs leadership to effectively concentrate on increasing and educating our membership base.
Matt McInerney, DRC board chairman, added, From the onset of our contractual relationship with the Blue Book, we had envisioned a time when the DRC would independently provide trading assistance to our members. Given our current membership levels, the board felt now was the right time to take over these responsibilities.
Concurrent with the planned mid-summer transfer of the DRCs trading assistance function from Blue Book Services, Fred Webber will leave his position with Blue Book Services to assume the role of vice president of trading assistance with the DRC at its Ottawa headquarters.
In addition to his 16 years of service with Blue Book Services, Mr. Webber also had been a PACA marketing specialist, during which time he also completed the USDA training for market inspectors.
In addition to his responsibilities with Blue Book Services, Mr. Webber has served as the DRCs director of trading assistance during the six-year working arrangement between DRC and BBS.
Fred brings extensive industry knowledge and proven trading assistance expertise, said Mr. Whitney. Fred will be instrumental in the DRC fulfilling our mission to provide the North American produce industry with the standards, policies and services to resolve disputes in a timely and cost-effective manner.
Mr. McInerney added, The board is very pleased by the addition of Fred Webber to the DRC, not only for his ability to serve our members, but because we have added necessary depth to the DRC executive team. The DRC board has mapped out a challenging long-term strategy and a viable succession plan is an essential component.
Looking to the future, DRC and Blue Book Services plan to continue ongoing projects that will improve dispute resolution methodologies. For example, a joint effort to improve the customs and usage practices for the transportation sector will be completed on schedule later this year.
As it has for most of its 104-year history, Blue Book Services will continue to provide its members with trading assistance, including services for collections, mediations and arbitrations.
We certainly wish Fred Webber well in his new role with the DRC, said Jim Carr, president of Blue Book Services. Yet, our trading assistance team, with a combined 33 years of experience, stands ready to help our customers just like always.
