Del Monte Fresh ramps up its value-added line
Coral Gables, FL-based Del Monte Fresh Produce N.A. Inc. unveiled the newest addition to its value-added category with the June 7 launch of its microwavable vegetable line. The company developed this line to offer consumers a new and convenient way to enjoy a daily serving of steamed vegetables.
"We are enthusiastically looking forward to consumers' response to the new microwavable vegetables, a delicious product that will be an immensely popular extension to Del Monte's ever- expanding product line," Matt Smith, vice president of marketing, said in a statement.
The microwavable vegetable products utilize unique, high-impact packaging provided by Cryovac, which allows vegetables to be steam cooked. The vegetables are freshly packed in a vacuum- sealed tray, which can be placed directly into the microwave. Depending on the serving size, microwave times vary from three to four minutes. The handles on the product remain cool to the touch, so consumers can easily remove the product from the microwave and use the easy-open tab to peel off the film and serve.
"Consumers will quickly embrace this new value-added variety, which combines outstanding taste and aroma with a longer shelf life, providing consumers more reasons than ever to enjoy the freshest vegetables," Mr. Smith added in the statement.
The launch features three varieties of microwavable vegetables: Baby Carrots, Vegetable Medley (carrots, broccoli & cauliflower) and Mixed Vegetable (carrots, cauliflower and sugar peas). Each product is offered in two sizes - a single-serve (five or six ounces) and a 12-ounce family portion - that give consumers the option of enjoying healthy side dishes with their meals.
The microwavable vegetable line is currently being sold by various retailers in the Midwest, with a national expansion being planned during 2006.
