California Giant expands web site
For those who are eager to share berry important information, Watsonville, CA-based California Giant has added its own Cal Giant berry blog to its web site.
The blog is just one new element in the company's effort to offer useful, timely and new information for visitors to its web site (www.calgiant.com).
Cal Giant has added health and nutrition pages to its site and soon will have a virtual strawberry photo tour that starts with planting and ends with shipments on their way to retail outlets across the country. This new element is a result of consumer inquiries asking how strawberries are planted, and interested parties who want to know how their food is grown and harvested, said Cindy Jewell, Cal Giant's director of marketing.
The company has streamlined its berry and "Just Strawberry" drink information and added a recipe page, added Ms. Jewell.
"Consumers really enjoy the opportunity to communicate directly with us throughout the season when they purchase our berries," Ms. Jewell said. "Since the web site address is listed on every container, consumers have a direct connection with us."
Cal Giant receives e-mails and phone calls every day from consumers asking about product availability, care and handling, and cultural and environmental practices, Ms. Jewell said. She personally responds to each e-mail inquiry.
In addition to accessing company information, product specifications, merchandising information and consumer data, Cal Giant's retail and foodservice customers also have the ability to gain a password through the web site to access real-time information on product order status. This tool gives customers the option of customizing electronic communication on order fulfillments, truck check-in and loading for each order placed.
Visitors to the web site will find links to the latest nutrition headlines in the news. This element of the site will continue to build throughout the year with the addition of more resources for consumers on health and fitness.
The site is an extension of Cal Giant's marketing program and communicates on-line many of the program elements in place for the 2006 season, Ms. Jewell said.
