California Giant cycling team sweeps the nationals in Colorado
The U.S. Cyclocross National Championship cycling races were held in early January at Valmont Bike Park in Boulder, CO, shortly after a snowstorm, strong winds and partial snowmelt that resulted in the perfect combination of cold snowy mud. However, the California Giant Cycling team persevered and brought home a major win.
The weekend ended with Logan Owen, Yannick Eckmann and Cody Kaiser, all Under-23 riders for California Giant Berry Farms, sweeping the podium.
The California Giant Cycling team will be representing the United States at the 2014 UCI Cyclocross World Championships. Their fourth teammate, Tobin Ortenblad, came in strong just missing fourth place in the Under-23 race. Additionally, the women did not disappoint with Elle Anderson and Meredith Miller finishing second and third on the Elite Women's podium.
Owen already has eight national titles at the junior level, and now in his first year as an Under-23 rider, rode right off the front line alone from start to finish. Logan took the title this year from his teammate, 2013 U23 champion Yannick Eckmann. Additionally, Anderson received many accolades for finishing second behind the legendary Katie Compton and was dubbed the "next best woman in cyclocross."
Due to the strong racing season the team had this year and this very strong finish, the entire team will represent the United States at the 2014 UCI Cyclocross World Championships, Feb. 1-2 in Hoogerheide, Netherlands.
