Baldor acquiring Merex
Baldor Specialty Foods Inc. announced that it is close to finalizing the acquisition of Merex Food Corp., a leading produce importer for the North American market.
Merex is a specialty food industry pioneer, having introduced exotic products to the mainstream market over 20 years ago.
By educating the consumer with recipes on every package, once-exotic items like sun-dried tomatoes, porcini mushrooms, radicchio, baby potatoes and shallots are now a staple in today's marketplace. Upon completion of the acquisition, the sales of Merex's items, which are marketed under the "Bon Campo" label, would be incorporated into Baldor's I.P.E.X. division, its worldwide, offshore network of farmers, marketers, and distributors, which ensure customers have a steady, affordable, year-round source of its products.
I.P.E.X. serves as Baldor's global marketplace for consumers in search of the world's finest produce and packaged goods.
Kevin Murphy, Baldor's chief executive officer, said in a press release, "I am happy about this merger, as Baldor will now be able to provide our customers with the 'Bon Campo' line and expand on its offerings. We continue to broaden our scope and product line while maintaining top-evel service."
David Bloomberg, chief executive officer of Merex, added in the press release, "The 'Bon Campo' line currently enjoys a good consumer franchise. Further growth is planned through an extensive, exciting line extension program featuring several new products that require the state-of-the-art new facility at Baldor. We are all very excited about the future."
Baldor is one of the larger importers and distributors in the northeastern United States. It recently relocated to a 200,000-square-foot, HACCP- accredited facility in the Hunts Point section of the Bronx, NY.
This system, which is now used at all stages of food production as a tool for protecting public health and food safety, would enhance the "Bon Campo" line of products.
Boasting the most extensive culinary quality-assurance program available, Baldor prides itself on providing a clean environment that ensures employee and product safety.
With the acquisition of Merex, Baldor is poised to further extend relationships with local and international farmers, artisans and producers directly to the consumer.
