“One reason for the outstanding optimism we have for our business today is in the availability of products from around the world,” said Jeff Abrash, president and owner of Andrews Bros. Inc., located on the Detroit Produce Terminal. “Sourcing the best produce and passing it on to customers at a fair price is our founding principle, and we do it seven days a week.”
It’s also why the company enjoys the highly regarded reputation it has. Every staff member works hard for both customers and suppliers.
“This is tangible to us,” he noted. “When we leave here at the end of the day, we leave knowing that we have served customers and suppliers as well as they can be served.”
Abrash is a fourth-generation family member to operate the business, which began over 100 years ago.
Today it sources seasonal product from all corners of the earth.
Andrews Bros. is a full line supplier of fruits and vegetables. Its customer network includes independent and chain retailers, wholesalers and foodservice operators. Abrash said the one common denominator is that all customers specialize in selling high-quality perishable foods.
Abrash said he speaks for every business at the terminal market when he says that there is an unsurpassed cooperative spirit that exists between merchants and retailers in Detroit and surrounding areas.
As for the city of Detroit overcoming its challenges of past years, Abrash said he’s highly optimistic, noting, “When we look at the overall Detroit Metro area we see good things happening. Positive changes inside of the city are slow, but progressing. The State of Michigan and the City of Detroit have elected officials who aren’t consumed with being reelected, but rather about doing a good job. That makes me feel confident about Detroit’s future.”
The majority of Andrews Bros.’ customers are in Southeast Michigan, but the company also reaches into Ohio and Canada.
“We’re a very stable company with a loyal and energetic staff of people who have been a part of our team for many years,” said Abrash. “Our company philosophy is to come to work every day and do the best possible job for our suppliers and our customers.”
