A.J. Trucco out in front with newly updated ‘KiwiStar’ kiwi fruit relaunch
“We are very excited to be exhibiting at the New York Produce Show again this year,” said Nick Pacia, president of A.J. Trucco, commonly referred to as “Trucco,” located at Hunts Point Terminal Market in the Bronx, NY. “We’ll be at Booth Nos. 413-417 this year at the show. Trucco is thrilled to announce the relaunch of its ‘KiwiStar’ brand. ‘KiwiStar’ has been on the market for almost 15 years, and has recently undergone a complete rebranding with an updated logo, a new design and innovative packaging.”
Pacia added that the “KiwiStar” brand has grown significantly over the years. The company has immediate plans to extend the brand across a variety of kiwi offerings.
“Not only do we have a ‘KiwiStar’ brand for conventional kiwifruit, but we have also designed a ‘KiwiStar’ organic line, and a ‘KiwiStar’ Gold Line,” said Pacia. “At Trucco, we have seen a significant increase in demand for both Gold kiwifruit and organic kiwifruit, so we decided to use the success of our ‘KiwiStar’ brand to highlight these items.”
Trucco has exhibited at the New York Produce Show, which is being held at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center North Hall on Dec. 2-4, since it began. Pacia said that the company has always had a positive experience at the show.
“It takes place in our home town, and it is a great way to see many of our partners and show them the new things that are happening at Trucco,” he noted. “We think the timing is very convenient. It’s during the holiday season, but far enough away from Christmas so things aren’t too crazy. Also, this time of year makes it more likely for people to come to New York City and visit the show.”
A.J. Trucco is now fully PTI compliant with its kiwifruit, and close to being fully compliant with its entire line of commodities. It is a leading supplier of a wide variety of items that also includes citrus, fresh and dried figs, grapes, chestnuts, dried fruits and nuts, garlic and more. It also has an extensive organic line of products.
The company began in 1937 amid the aisles of the old Washington Produce Market in downtown Manhattan. In 1965, Salvatore Vacca bought the company and relocated to the Hunts Point Terminal Market. For three decades he grew and transformed the company into a successful enterprise.
In 1999, Vacca partnered with Nick Pacia, and together they continued A.J. Trucco’s long tradition of importing and distributing Italian chestnuts. It has also considerably expanded the company’s list of available commodities. Today, the company is considered a leading distributor of these items, and it has a strong history of European imports. It also offers a wide variety of organic items.
