Acme Markets to feature Bill Nardelli in ad circulars and in-store signage
As part of its ongoing support of locally grown products and farmers, Acme Markets will feature Bill Nardelli of Nardelli Bros. Inc. in Cederville, NJ, in its advertising circulars and in-store signage beginning this season.
Acme, whose 140 or so stores represent the Northeast region of the Albertson's chain, "has long been a supporter of New Jersey-grown items," Mr. Nardelli told The Produce News April 29. "We're very pleased to have a national chain take pride in promoting fresh produce from New Jersey.
Acme, which was acquired by Alberton's in 2000, has for some years spotlighted a local farmer in its advertising, according to Mr. Nardelli, who will be "the main farmer featured this year by Acme and who will then join farmers previously chosen by Acme for future spots.
Since many consumers often see supermarkets as "corporate entities with few ties to the local area, Mr. Nardelli said, Acme promotes the farmers in local newspapers' weekly circulars and in signage in its own supermarkets "to help show how they support local farmers. Consumers who shop at an Acme store or read Acme circulars - and who see photos of Mr. Nardelli with fresh produce right at his facility in southern New Jersey - will hopefully make the connection that Acme does indeed support local farmers and the local economy, he suggested.
Acme stores support New Jersey produce "from the beginning of the vegetable deal, through the blueberry and peach deals, right through the fall crops, said Mr. Nardelli, who is also a longtime supporter of the Jersey Fresh promotional program. "It makes us very proud that they're promoting us, too.
Acme will feature Mr. Nardelli throughout its stores in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland.
