Starr Ranch Growers proud to be Fair Trade Certified
Starr Ranch Growers, known for its top-rated JUICI apples, is elevating the collective-good with a industry first designation on over 3,900 acres being Fair Trade Certified. “We’re the first apple grower-shipper to receive this hard-earned distinction,” said Krista Beckstead, brand manager at Starr Ranch, based out of Wenatchee, WA.
The Fair Trade Certified logo is a hard-earned accreditation, highlighting companies who go above and beyond to empower their employees. Retailers pay a premium on goods that are Fair Trade Certified to promote employee welfare, for Starr this means 80 percent of premiums are paid back directly to the farm workers, which indirectly supports local communities at large.
For Starr growing Fair Trade Certified apples is a commitment to dedicating additional support and compensation for its employees and personnel working directly in the orchards.
“Harvest is our favorite time of the year,” said Beckstead, “after all the hard work and dedication, everything finally comes to fruition.” Starr’s apple harvest kicks off in August with early varieties like Organic Honeycrisp and Starr Ranch Exclusive JUICI and will continue working through October offering promotable volume through the last to be picked variety Pink Lady.
“At Starr Ranch we are serious about Sustainable Packaging!” said Beckstead. “We are currently packing our products in recyclable pouch bags and corrugated boxes.” Starr is also moving all bulk commodities to it’s new fully recyclable HIC2 high-density polyethylene plastic bag. “When HDPE recycling is done the right way, we can help keep non-biodegradable plastic waste out of landfills and help the environment,” said Dan Davis, director of business development.
“At the end of it all, we’re proud of good fruit done right — straight from our trees to your tabletop,” said Dan Davis, director of business development. Starr Ranch invites consumers closer in on the action this apple season, “join us and take pride and enjoy that your Starr apples are ethically sourced, produced, and Fair Trade Certified!”
