SunFed moves to Weslaco location
SunFed has relocated its Texas receiving and shipping warehouse to Weslaco, TX.
Heading the operation is Andres Escobar and David Salinas, who specializes in onion sales.
Escobar officially joined SunFed on Feb. 1, a day before The Produce News arrived for a tour of the leased facility. There, the loading dock was full of white Mexican onions.
This spring SunFed is packing and shipping Texas onions. The firm offers yellow, red, white and sweet onions.
This facility started shipping Mexican limes in mid-February and will be shipping hot peppers and tomatoes this spring.
The Weslaco operation is also shipping squash and other products from SunFed’s Nogales headquarters.
“The near-future goal is to build our own facility on land we own in Pharr,” Escobar noted.
The Weslaco facility is SunFed’s first warehouse in south Texas, he said. “Before we cross-docked” through other independent Texas facilities.
Escobar has 30 years of produce experience. He was a produce buyer for HEB in McAllen and in Mexico. And he worked in sales for several major produce shippers.
