A successful season in New Jersey so far
VINELAND, NJ — Mike D’Ottavio, president of D’Ottavio Farms, spoke to The Produce News Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 13, at his company’s headquarters, here, in the heart of New Jersey’s fresh produce region.
“So far so good,” he began on a hot, humid day. “Outside of some extremely high temperatures and a rainy July, we had an excellent season in Jersey so far.”
He continued, “We have our third planting of Bell pepper, eggplant, pole cucumbers, variety peppers, specialty eggs, green squash, yellow squash, kale cilantro and cabbage for the fall harvest. With all the additional acreage planted for the fall, our goal is to make a smooth transition to our farm in Immokalee, Florida.”
As a year-round supplier to many retail chains, wholesalers and foodservice companies on the East Coast, said D’Ottavio, “Our goal is to maintain steady supply, quality and service that they deserve. If we can continue this Jersey season with good markets and steady supply and the support of our customers, we will have a successful season in New Jersey.”
He concluded, “After that, my fingers will be crossed for good growing weather and steady markets for us in Florida.”
