Side Delights offers solutions in changing economic climate

Side Delights shares data that suggests grocery stores should source what shoppers seek from companies they can count on. Data shows that global economic and supply chain concerns are causing consumers to shift from restaurants to retailers in search of foods to prepare at home that provides value and nutritional benefits.

With fears of a possible recession looming and inflation driving up prices, multiple factors are affecting the global supply chain, and the cost of food is up 10 percent over a year ago. Additionally, gas prices have risen 50 percent over a year ago, which gives people another reason to cook at home.

NBC’s June 22, 2022, Today Show segment, Tips to Fight Inflation in the Kitchen, reported that 61 percent of consumers had pulled back on restaurants and delivery in the past six months. Inflation-fighting shopping tips included purchasing plant-based foods, which the reporter pointed out are more economical and healthier than cooking with meat. Side Delights potatoes are an excellent plant-based food based on their economic and nutritional value, filling nature and flexibility.

“As America’s #1 favorite vegetable, ounce for ounce, potatoes pack more nutrition for the dollar than any other fresh produce item. Their versatility means more options (mashed, baked, roasted, sauté, etc.) per bag to keep meals exciting,” commented Kathleen Triou, president and CEO of Fresh Solutions Network.

“When stored in a cool, dark, ventilated space, they keep well, so buying in bulk and larger bag sizes (8lb. & 10lb. bags) are viable budget-friendly options – plus that means fewer trips to the grocery store, especially now that gas is so expensive. Additionally, Side Delights can be microwaved or cooked on the grill reducing the need to heat the kitchen while putting less stress on the electrical bill.”

In addition to an unstable economic climate, multiple factors affect the global supply chain, including produce and the potato market. As a result, stores and shoppers must select suppliers they can rely on. “Fresh Solutions Network partners prioritize our key customers – we stand by our surety of supply promise. The Network partners are vertically integrated; they own their land, storage, sheds and transportation system. We control our supply and distribution and are working to ensure our key customers are supplied between crop years,” Triou added. “We leverage the power of the Network to satisfy our customers, and ensure quality to feed the end consumer.”
