For more than 75 years, Westfalia Fruit has been a trusted supplier of avocados, fresh fruits and plant-based products to international retail, foodservice and wholesale customers.

westfaliaIn the United States, Westfalia Fruit offers high-quality avocados from five key countries of origin: California in the U.S.; Peru; Chile; Colombia; and Mexico.

“As a global leader in avocados, we create strong and resilient programs from farm to table rooted in our vertically integrated supply chain that yield the highest standards of quality to our customers,” said Christina Ward, director of marketing and product brands for the company. “This season, innovative opportunities continue to open up for fruit sourced from our vertically integrated Latin American supply chain.”

The company is looking forward to heading to Nashville for the upcoming SEPC Southern Innovations show, especially as it celebrates its 75th anniversary, continuing its vision of sustainable and regenerative agricultural practices.

“At the show, we will continue focusing on actionable sustainability,” Ward said. “We expanded our zero-plastic avocado bag line with the recent launch of the organic avocado cellulose bag, which complements its conventional counterpart. These bags reduce 7.2 grams of plastic per bag, equivalent to 17 plastic straws.”

Westfalia is a Gold sponsor of SEPC, and its team of avocado experts will be on hand at booth No. 311.

“We are ready to share the next era of avocados with our valued partners at the show,” Ward said. “SEPC Southern Innovations is important to us and our industry; it is an incredible platform to foster strong relationships and share innovative solutions to drive the avocado category forward.”

One of the big topics those at the company expect to talk about on the show floor is how as the industry prepares for Q4, there is an expected size curve that lends itself to bagged promotions.

“According to the data, bagged avocados have grown more than 58 percent since 2019, reaching 569 million units in 2022,” Ward said. “As avocado experts, we bring our robust sourcing strategies, end-to-end supply chain solutions, and exceptional customer service to our value partners. Collectively, we want to drive the consumption of fresh avocados and grow the category. This show is a great way to connect in person with customers and industry partners.”

As it approaches the holiday season, when in-store traffic is at its peak, Westfalia Fruit sees this as an opportunity to inspire shoppers with new holiday recipes that incorporate the rich, versatile flavor of avocados.

“It’s a festive time for a festive ingredient. Whether it’s holiday-inspired guacamole, appetizers or seasonal entrees, avocados can elevate any dish during this season of hosting and gift-giving,” Ward said. “Additionally, we are participating in the pink bags during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, followed by college football promotions that offer $1.50 cash back.”

Consumers are becoming increasingly familiar with fruit from diverse countries of origin and peak flavor profiles during key times of the year when there are traditional crop transitions. The diverse country of origin portfolio drives Westfalia’s innovative and vertically integrated supply chain.

“Looking ahead, we anticipate promotable volumes next season,” Ward said. “This a crucial time to generate the positive momentum that will carry us into 2025.”

The company is also thrilled to officially introduce its ultra-premium, 100-percent pure avocado oils in the United States, now available in three flavors, including Plain, Garlic and Lemon.

“Made from fresh avocados grown and hand-selected in South Africa, Westfalia Fruit avocado oils represent the pinnacle of quality, versatility and reliability,” Ward said. “Since 1949, we have grown and expanded our product portfolio, and today, we qualify as avocado connoisseurs. We have been making avocado oils for over 20 years, with input from edible oil specialists.”

Westfalia Fruit avocado oil is the first avocado oil with a purpose — to do good.

“Our dedication to actionable sustainability spans decades,” Ward said. “We use the flesh of the avocados and return the seeds and skins to the orchards for soil conditioning and mulch. Our entire process, from beginning to end, supports zero waste and carbon footprint reduction initiatives.”
