Though 2020 required a much different approach because of the protocols surrounding COVID-19,  Sunview Marketing was able to navigate those changes and the end result was a very successful grape season. Now that the 2021 California Central Valley season has begun, the sales team is ready to welcome back a more normal path to success.

Associated Wholesale Grocers Inc. and Coborn’s Inc. have reached an agreement for AWG to serve as the primary wholesale supplier to Coborn’s. Based in St. Cloud, MN, Coborn’s is a 100-year-old employee-owned grocery retailer with nearly 9,300 employees and 59 grocery stores across Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin operating under the Coborn’s, Cash Wise Foods, Marketplace Foods and Hornbacher’s banners.

Four Seasons Produce, based in Ephrata, PA, announced the winners of its Berry Bonanza retail display contest, held in conjunction with Driscoll’s. The contest was available for Four Seasons’ independent retailer, natural food store and food co-op customers who purchased and displayed organic and/or conventional Driscoll’s berries through Four Seasons Produce. Entries were accepted from May 17 to June 14 and were required to have at least three different berry varieties in their displays, promoting the Berry Patch concept.

Joe Pezzini likes to say his family were small family farmers before it was in vogue. He grew up in the Salinas Valley, which is where his grandfather, Giuseppe Pezzini, and his father, Angelo Pezzini, landed after immigrating from Italy in the 1930s. His grandfather started farming and growing artichokes in the Carmel Valley, near Highway 1, where the crop was a recipient of the cool ocean breezes.

The Kroger Co. announced the retirement of Steve McKinney, senior vice president of retail divisions, effective Aug. 7. McKinney will be succeeded by Valerie Jabbar, currently group vice president of center store merchandising. McKinney began his career with Kroger in 1981 as a clerk for Florida Choice Supermarkets, a former Kroger banner. While there, he advanced to store manager, buyer and field representative before moving to Fry's Food Stores, where he held several leadership positions before being named vice president of operations in 1998.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has imposed sanctions on Southern Produce Distributors Inc. in Faison, NC, for violating the Perishable Agricultural Commodities Act. These sanctions include barring the business and the principal operators of the business from engaging in PACA-licensed business or other activities without approval from USDA.
