Raley’s has converted an existing store from a Raley’s into a Raley’s O-N-E Market for the second time in as many weeks. The newest Raley’s O-N-E Market location is the first in the state of Nevada. “In line with our purpose of changing the way the world eats, one plate at a time, we are proud to have expanded the Raley’s O-N-E Market banner into Nevada,” said Keith Knopf, Raley’s president and CEO. “This store conversion was a purpose-driven decision inspired by our desire to help people live healthier, happier and more fulfilled lives.”

The 700,000-square-foot Philadelphia Wholesale Produce Market houses 19 different produce merchants who worked diligently this past year to provide the region with reliable supply amidst a volatile market. As the Northeast moves into spring, merchants look forward to a more even keel. “Merchants and customers are optimistic about the future,” said Mark Smith, PWPM general manager. “As things continue to open up, we are excited to provide the region with healthy produce.”

While many regions of the U.S. experienced Mother Nature’s wintry whipsaws with record-setting cold snaps, heavy snow storms and freezing rains, the Northeast is emerging from a long winter with conditions favorable to producing a strong start for the new apple season. Brett Baker, corporate vice president and co-owner of United Apple Sales and a third-generation apple grower in western New York, indicated that they experienced a traditional Northeastern winter.

Southeastern Grocers Inc., parent company and home of Fresco y Más, Harveys Supermarket and Winn-Dixie grocery stores, unveiled its newest Winn-Dixie location in Viera, FL, last week. The Viera store opening is SEG’s latest expansion throughout the state of Florida, following the 2020 openings of eight new Winn-Dixie stores.

Back in early March, I had the opportunity to be a part of a United Fresh Brandstorm Panel with Ajit Saxena of Mucci Farms and Yolanda Owens of Forage + Black, both industry professionals highly passionate about cultivating empathy in produce and beyond. The panel was created to talk about empathy in business to consumer marketing. When we closed out the hour panel session, I sat feeling like that couldn’t be the end of that discussion. There was so much left to cover. There was more work that needed to be done within the produce industry.

What happens when you take a dash of delicious foods, add in a sprinkle of family fun and stir in a chance to teach kids about giving back? You get the recipe for a new interactive Walmart experience that aims to show kids that healthy food can be fun. The retailer, in collaboration with Partnership for a Healthier America and Higher Ground Productions, has launched The Hidden World of Waffles + Mochi, an interactive culinary adventure experience, to inspire families to cook up fresh, healthy foods just like Waffles and Mochi do on their Netflix show as part of the Pass the Love campaign.
