Push the supplements aside and naturally promote positivity and wellbeing with colorful fruits and veggies! Choose produce that increases our body’s mood boosting messengers to maintain mental health and happiness through nutrients like tryptophan, folate, and tyrosine. It’s easy to find fruits and veggies that offer these necessary nutrients.
The amino acid tryptophan is a building block to serotonin production, which is aligned with improved health and considered important for boosting mood too. Therefore, when the diet is rich in tryptophan, serotonin levels are also maintained. Seek produce rich in tryptophan such as leafy greens, mushrooms, broccoli, peas and more. Go ahead and pair these veggies with fruit while you are at it, as tryptophan is even more effective when it’s consumed with carbohydrate.
Dopamine is associated with feeling motivated and happy. Who doesn’t want that? Folate rich vegetables like avocados, broccoli, kale, artichokes, and spinach assist with dopamine production, as do berries like strawberries and blueberries.
The amino acid Tyrosine also boosts dopamine production. While it’s generally found in protein-rich foods, red beets, spinach, and ripe bananas are perfect produce choices for boosting your intake of tyrosine.
