Idaho Potato Commission drops new commercial
Genuine Idaho Potatoes are a hot commodity as depicted in the Idaho Potato Commission’s new television commercial, Knock Offs. A few shady characters are shown trying to pawn their potato products off as genuine Idaho Potatoes. However, the astute customers aren’t falling for the “I dunno” brand — underscoring the message you need to look for the "Grown in Idaho" seal to be certain you’re purchasing genuine Idaho Potatoes.
Boise State University football fans got a sneak peek of the ad when it aired during their first game of the season at Georgia Southern and then again when the Broncos played Washington State at the end of September. For the rest of the country, the commercial began airing Monday, Oct. 28.
“Protecting and promoting the 'Grown in Idaho' seal is the Commission’s greatest responsibility,” said Jamey Higham, president and CEO of IPC. “Every major marketing initiative we launch, like our TV ad, either introduces new customers to the seal or reminds loyal purchasers to always look for the seal. Knocks Offs reminds customers to look for the seal when purchasing any potato product.”
The commercial is currently airing on Discovery, ESPN, Food Network, HGTV, History, the Hallmark Channel, ID, TBS and TLC as well as on Max, Warner Brothers Discovery Streaming, Hulu, Disney+ and Tubi Streaming networks. Part of the streaming schedule starting on Nov. 11 is a month long sponsorship of the popular Warner Brothers Discovery Streaming show, Guy’s Grocery Games hosted by Guy Fieri. The IPC television campaign will continue to run through April 2025.
In addition, the spot will air around key holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s, Valentine’s Day and Easter) in YouTube programming targeting Idaho Potato buyers.
