Meet on the starting line for CGT’s Walking Challenge

Center for Growing Talent has opened the Walking Challenge for Talent, a 7-day walking challenge that will run alongside the Foodservice Conference and Expo.  Whether you are looking to increase your daily step count, or form a team to crush the competition, there is a way for everyone to join the fun.

cgtParticipants can join the networking and team building experience at any time with prizes awarded to both individuals and teams.  Funds raised go towards Center for Growing Talent’s programs including Career Pathways, the program that excites and engages students about the many career opportunities in the produce and floral industries.

CGT’s goal is to achieve 5 million steps together from July 15-22.  Individual registrants can choose their own personal goal from 3, 5, or 10 thousand steps a day.  The overall event fundraising goal is at least $5,000 and industry participants can contribute by registering and joining a team or by contributing to a colleague’s team as well. Registration, leaderboards for fundraising and teams and  details on prizes for the events are available on the Challenge page.

Team competitions are heating up, with Kristen Smith Eshaya of JV Smith Companies leading the recruitment across her own organization.

“At JV Smith Companies, wellness is one of our core values,” said Eshaya, vice president of organizational development.  “We are constantly having wellness challenges to compete against each other so we jumped at the chance to work together to compete against other companies in the industry!  We are proud to support the great work of Center for Growing Talent and their programs to recruit and retain talent to our industry.”

While Eshaya pointed out that she “loves that recruiting others in my organization for this challenge makes them aware of the Center or Growing Talent and their programs, we are mostly looking to kick butt!  Sorry all, you don't stand a chance against us!”

The team with the most members can win a gift card to spend on a team celebration, bragging rights and organizational recognition in support of the Career Pathways program.  Individuals who participate are all entered to win gift cards for each step goal groups. All individuals participating will have a chance to win a free Management Fundamentals professional development course of their choosing through FreshEd Academy ($500 value.)
