ADS Management announces retirement of industry veteran

After nearly five decades of dedicated service in the produce industry, Woody Dunkum bids farewell to ADS Management and his illustrious career, excitedly embracing a new chapter of leisure and adventure in retirement.

Dunkum wore an abundance of hats throughout his produce career. His journey began with Purity Supreme Supermarkets in Massachusetts, spending 12 years working his way up to head produce buyer and sales manager. He then joined ADS Management, a family of produce companies that includes Hapco Farms, ADS, Freshouse and MR Farms, all owned by Andy Pollak.

"Hapco seemed like a great little company back then, since it only employed about 50 employees. Today, we find ourselves a much larger company, with over 1,000 employees," Dunkum said in reflecting on his career with the company.

Pollak, who also serves as CEO of the ADS companies, echoed Dunkum’s sentiment, lauding his invaluable contributions in steering the company’s growth trajectory.

Ultimately becoming COO, some of Dunkum’s varied responsibilities included equipment procurement, operations and information technology. Additionally, Dunkum oversaw a growing network of 10 facilities across the United States and Canada, servicing and supporting many of ADS Management’s customers and growing regions, as the company expanded its farming operations to over 13,000 acres.

“With the growth and success of our farming programs, it was imperative to have facilities located geographically to service our customers, thus giving them the freshest product possible,” said Dunkum, who added that mission continues as ADS Management looks to further expand across the Southeast and Midwest. “I have great confidence and comfort knowing that a mix of seasoned veterans combined with a new generation of well-trained professional management will collectively take Andy’s companies to an even greater level of success.”

As Dunkum bids adieu to his professional endeavors, he eagerly anticipates indulging in his passion for travel, envisioning leisurely motorcycle and RV trips in the sunny landscapes of Utah and Arizona.

Brimming with excitement for his new adventures while also looking in the rearview mirror of his storied career, Dunkum said, "I’m looking forward to the adventures that lie ahead, and I can only hope they can come close to the adventures and challenges that we, as a management family, met and conquered!”
