To-Jo Mushrooms welcomes two execs to sales and marketing team
Adam Cooney and Johnny Kampes have joined Avondale, PA-based To-Jo Mushrooms, a company that coins itself as an innovative leader in the mushroom farming and produce industry.
Cooney joined the company in early November as the director of sales and marketing and Kampes joined the team more than three months ago as the national account manager.
To-Jo Mushrooms officials said that Cooney brings an impressive 20 years of experience in retail and wholesale, sales, purchasing, distribution and customer service and he will immediately become a valuable asset to To-Jo’s commitment to delivering exceptional service and products to customers.
Cooney’s expertise in the produce industry positions him to drive the company’s strategic vision and foster new opportunities in the marketplace, they note.
“One thing that has never changed in my entire career is working for a family-owned company where morals and values align with me personally,” Cooney said. “My relationship with Tony and Joe D’Amico and the To-Jo team was one of my first vendor/partner relationships in my professional career that was also personal. I could not be happier to be given the opportunity to be a part of the family.”
Kampes joined To-Jo after a successful career in collegiate and professional baseball in the Baltimore Orioles organization. Company officials said that Kampes’ competitive spirit and teamwork skills bring a fresh perspective to the To-Jo team, reinforcing the company’s reputation for excellence and innovation in customer relationships.
“I am extremely excited to be a part of the To-Jo Family,” Kampes said. “We share the same values and morals which makes this a wonderful fit. I have quickly learned that the produce world is all about people and relationships which I am very passionate about. I am grateful for this opportunity, and I can’t wait to grow my experience with To-Jo.”
Tony D’Amico, the president of To-Jo Mushrooms and a fourth-generation family operator, expressed his enthusiasm for the new hires and eagerness to quickly get them involved in the business. “We are extremely excited to welcome Adam and Johnny to the To-Jo family,” he noted. “Their unique backgrounds and skill sets perfectly align with our company values and mission, and we are confident they will contribute significantly to our growth and success.”
D’Amico added that To-Jo Mushrooms is committed to advancing its position as a trusted provider of high-quality mushrooms, leveraging the expertise of its team to meet the evolving needs of its customers.
The company is a family-owned and operated mushroom farm that is well known for its innovative farming practices, dedication to sustainability and commitment to quality, earning the trust of many in the produce industry for generations.
To-Jo Mushrooms offers a wide selection of mushrooms in the white, brown, specialty, foraged, organics and processed categories and can offer them in a large assortment of bulk and packaged mushrooms, customized retail packs and foodservice packs tailored to the customers’ specific needs.
The company also offers specialized seasonal packs and is involved in the private label segment of the business.
To-Jo’s started when stonemason Joseph D’Amico purchased a stone quarry in Avondale that happened to include a small mushroom house. His sons, Alfred and Anthony, took over the mushroom business in the 1950s, followed by Joe’s sons Tony and Joe, Jr., who started running the company in 2007.
In 2011, To-Jo was one of the first mushroom companies to achieve SQF Level 3 certification and institute produce traceability into all of its facilities. In 2014, the company received USDA Organic Growing Certification.
