NuBerry Farms expands blueberry footprint

NuBerry Farms manages 2,600 acres of blueberry production across Florida, Georgia, New Jersey, North Carolina and Michigan, supported by packing facilities in Georgia, New Jersey and Michigan to ensure a consistent, year-round supply.

The company’s strategic focus on domestic and imported blueberries has seen significant growth, especially since the launch of a refreshed branding campaign for NuBerry two years ago. The packaging features eye-catching yellow labels for conventional blueberries and light green labels for organic options, emphasizing the company’s commitment to creating a strong brand identity for consumers and retailers alike.

The company boasts a robust presence in the Northeast, particularly in New Jersey, where nearly 570 acres of blueberries are cultivated, alongside a 90-acre domestic blackberry program in Georgia.

Ali Dandrea, part of the NuBerry sales teams, emphasized the importance of collaboration and consistency in supplier relationships, highlighting how control over the supply chain enables the company to provide high-quality products efficiently.

“This season, the blueberry harvest has been promising, with New Jersey’s crops developing well despite some challenges,” she said. “Labor shortages in Georgia prompted the use of machinery for harvesting, which concludes earlier than traditional handpicking, but plans are underway to strengthen harvests in North Carolina and New Jersey.”

The company also participates in regional programs like Jersey Fresh, emphasizing its regional roots and commitment to local markets.

Since forming, NuBerry Farms has quickly risen as a key player in the blueberry market, launching its brand with confidence.

Jason Rudd, vice president of sales and marketing, expressed enthusiasm about the company’s premium offerings, including jumbo blueberries and the Sweetest Pick variety-specific packs, which have garnered positive feedback from consumers.

“Combined with our import program, we’re able to offer our customers a consistent, 52-week supply of fresh blueberries,” he said.

The company is navigating industry challenges such as weather-related crop setbacks in the Southeast, which it plans to manage through diversified sourcing and transparent communication with clients.

“Industry trends remain favorable, with ongoing innovations in blueberry varieties and a focus on geographic diversification to meet rising consumer demand,” Rudd said.

NuBerry Farms’ team attributes its success to a culture of trust, collaboration and customer-centric service, positioning the company for continued expansion in the competitive produce market.

The company maintains a strong mix of retail, foodservice and wholesale business, and continues to grow all in facets.
