Jersey Fresh lineup looking fabulous
We all know in our industry the challenges that we have met these past several years due to the ravages of COVID-19. I think we should all frankly give the farmers, distributors and retailers (you) a pat on the back and a big ‘Job well done.’”
Not every industry performed as consistently and effectively in getting goods to market as the folks in food. You provided for the needs of the public throughout the phases of the crisis, COVID-19 is officially over as a pandemic, and now the traditional ways of past years in the produce business revert to more “normal times.” Right?
Actually, in my view, not exactly, because there are nuanced changes that should be taken note of and incorporated into the new view of serving our customers.
Local is more important than ever because people are purposefully considering the benefits of having local farmers providing their best bounty.
It is a campaign we are promoting in our state just as others around the country will be doing the same. There will, of course, be the pressures of imported items coming in far cheaper, but it is a race to the bottom if price is the only consideration.
It also seems much clearer now, when we look at the conditions under which our produce offerings are being grown, that more social awareness has taken hold in the public mind-space.
Sustainable, organic, and regenerative are not just words on a package, but concepts to embrace and promote. One example is how the egg industry has captured that, and the promotion of how their farms fill the bill. Even as bulk displays and handling of the same are factored, packaging and its environmental effects are to be gauged.
