I Love Produce unleashes new campaign name for the Fall

Jim Provost, president and one of the founders of the West Grove, PA-based company, has been working on the commercial side of I Love Produce for 17 years, and has another 12 years under his belt working in the garlic industry.

Neil Millman, also a founding member, has been with the company for 17 years and there are several staff member with 10-plus years of experience as well.

“We all love the garlic business,” Provost said. “Success in the garlic industry comes from strong attention to detail, integrity and perseverance.”

Although the CDC and other agencies have said that COVID-19 is not transmitted on food, those at I Love Produce have taken many measures to protect the team and the products it works with.

“We all wear masks at all times. We have mandatory handwashing procedures in place and all staff have temperatures taken in the morning and afternoon,” Provost said. “We have monthly training on how to protect yourselves from COVID-19 in the outside world. It is very important to us that we stay safe and that we are able to keep our customers and consumers supplied during this crisis.”

Additionally, the company requires special handling of paperwork and employees are told to stay home if they feel unwell or if any family members feel unwell.

“We pay our staff for this time as an incentive to do so,” Provost said. “Our office and warehouse work stations are spread apart by more than six feet, and we have alternative week work cycles to avoid any broad-based sickness in our facility.”

Provost admitted that COVID-19 is a constant worry and often keeps him awake at night.

“Apart from the safety, it is very challenging to predict movement and requirements to control imports and inventories,” he said. “Just as things are opening up, they just as quickly shut down. How will the economic impact affect demand when the consumers start feeling the pinch in their pocket books and wallets? These are hard to predict scenarios.”

In an effort to get people thinking more about garlic, the company is rolling out its third annual Halloween promotion with a name change. 

“The promotion was called ‘OctCLOVErfest’ and we decided to make it more descriptive and it will be called ‘OctGARLICfest’ from now on,” Provost said. “We are utilizing the Eat Brighter campaign with Count Von Count to help promote the idea of using garlic for Halloween like you would eggs for Easter. Garlic has a skin of paper and it lends itself for dying and painting and decorating.”

To boost this promotion, the company has a national decorating contest each year that it offers on its social media. 

“Trick-or-Treating is probably going to be shelved in 2020, so this might be a fun activity for kids and adults alike to partake in,” Provost said. “Retailers should promote garlic for Halloween. It is a fun idea, plus it comes right at a good time to promote garlic with the fall cooking season.”

Elsewhere in the company, Joe Millman, son of co-owner and CEO Neil Millman, has recently joined I Love Produce in a marketing position.
