Miami Tropical Wholesaler offers the taste of the tropics

pinapples Miami Tropical Wholesaler Inc. specializes in tropical and oriental fruits and vegetables, and the products it offers are constantly trending.

Raul Polo Jr., president and owner of the Miami-based company, said that the company is operating the same way it has always operated its day-to-day tasks, with the only difference being that employees now go through a daily protocol before and after working. That includes a temperature check and sanitizing their work gear and pallet jacks.

“Deliveries being made to our distribution center also have protocols to follow,” he said, explaining they must call ahead of time to let receiving managers know what load is arriving and have all paperwork prepared and ready in a separate file to hand off to the company’s managers.

While there are always new ideas floating around the company, the biggest buzz lately is that Miami Tropical Wholesaler recently decided to freshen up its marketing division.

“My brother, Michael Polo, just joined the family business and has been named marketing director,” Polo said. “We are excited about our redesigned website, where it will be extremely user friendly, and clients and growers will find it extremely useful.”

Even with all that’s happened in Florida with COVID-19, the company has seen business booming.

“Thankfully we are in a recession proof industry. We have been able to grow stronger,” Polo said. “Every month new accounts are coming in. We are still looking to fill in some spots for our sales team. Thankfully we have been able to continue to meet or surpass our monthly goal. And most importantly, we have been able to help those in need by donating to local food banks, especially during this crisis we are all going through.”

As a family-owned and operated business, Polo noted personal relationships are very important to all, and customers are always top priority, with workers available 24/7.

“We want to make sure that their stores, restaurants, warehouses and markets are fully stocked and ready to operate for the following day,” Polo said. “Our fleet of trucks are constantly on the road all over South and Central Florida. Soon, we are going to be servicing all of Florida with our own fleet to guarantee on-time arrivals. We are a family that fell in love with this industry, and we just want to show others out there who we are and what we are all about.”

Polo credited Miami Tropical Wholesaler’s employees with keeping the company successful year after year.

“My team works hard daily to ensure that our clients are fully satisfied,” he said. “We are a family, as many know your job is your second home. The hours my employees put in whether

it be our telemarketing team entering extra orders, our drivers making third-round drops or our quality-control and pickers coming in earlier to make sure lots are pre-inspected to guarantee freshness, they all pay off at the end when I personally go up and thank each and every one of them for their outstanding performances.”

The company is in the process of signing with new retail accounts and Polo noted no client is too big nor too small to service.

“We simply want to make sure they are satisfied and continue to grow with us,” he said. “We try to offer a wide variety of items that are unfamiliar to the average person. But we can know that once they sample a product new to them, their perspective will change.”

He cited Rambutan for example, noting the average person will come across one and consider it a “strange fruit,” but once they enjoy a sample, they will see it resembles the common lychee — a fruit so sweet that they’ll end up eating a box full.
