Plan your promotions
With summer just down the road and trucking conditions being what they are, it is wise to work on locking up your transportation programs fast. Summer trucks will be in big demand. Diesel fuel prices are still climbing and will raise freight costs in the process. Don't wait until the last minute. Jump on it now, and plan your promotions from these choices:
Blueberries: Demand is fairly light, the market is steady with a good supply out of Florida and the Georgia product increasing. Supply out of Mexico is steady with good quality. There is a lighter supply on organic.
Raspberries: The market is lower on a fairly lighter demand and reaching a peak in Mexico. Oxnard and Santa Maria, CA, will have good volume and peak in June.
Cantaloupes: With moderate supply, the market is steady out of Central America with nine, 12 and 15 sizes available. Outstanding quality is reported. The quality of organic cantaloupes from Mexico is good.
Watermelons: The market is lower on fair demand. Mexican seedless and mini melons are crossing through Nogales, AZ, and good quality and volume is available out of Florida.
Clementines out of Morocco are in good supply with a steady market on moderate demand. It is a good time to promote.
Sweet Corn: Demand is moderate on a steady market out of central and south Florida as well as California. Good supply is available for promoting. The Georgia crop will begin very soon.
Bell Peppers: The market is lower on a moderate demand from Coachella, CA. Georgia will start up its crop very soon.
Broccoli bunch and crowns: Very good quality on a steady market with a good supply available for promoting.
