$7.7M meth-lime shipment leaves bitter taste in Customs' mouth

U.S. Customs & Border Protection Office of Field Operations officers assigned to the World Trade Bridge seized $7.7 million in methamphetamine in a shipment of limes.meth not limes

The seizure occurred Sept. 20 at the World Trade Bridge when a CBP officer referred a 2014 Freightliner tractor trailer hauling a shipment of limes for secondary inspection. Following a thorough examination that included use of a non-intrusive inspection system and CBP canines, CBP officers discovered 384 packages containing a total of 869.5 pounds of alleged methamphetamine within the trailer.

“Our frontline officers continue to deploy an effective combination of inspectional experience and technology and the result this time was $7.7 million in methamphetamine in a shipment of limes,” said Port Director Albert Flores, Laredo port of entry.

CBP seized the narcotics. Homeland Security Investigations special agents are investigating the seizure.
