Liquid fertilizer changes grape color, boosting price

Lytone Enterprise Inc. just announced a novel liquid fertilizer aiming to improve crop growth and quality by providing natural trace elements.

The newly launched ferlizer, Azolyte, consisting of not only macro-nutrients such as phosphorous, potassium and magnesium, which have been proven necessary for plant growth, but also a series of multiple elemental nutrients, many of which can only be found in oceanic sediments. These trace elements are believed to be beneficial for plant physiology as well as growth.

The trial of examining Azolyte’s effect on fruit quality took place in central Taiwan, where grapes can be grown and harvested during March to August. Field trial demonstrated that under the application of Azolyte, grapes changed the color from green to purple more consistently and faster. Local growers were satisfied with the result, because color performance boosts the wholesale price even up to 100-200 percent for table grapes in East Asia.

“There are more than 60 trace elements in Azolyte, and they are extracted from rocks that once were oceanic sediments. Throughout crust movement having taken place for millions of years, those sediments are available for mining nowadays,” said William Chang, founder and chairman of Lytone Enterprise. “The trace elements existing in the rocks, though are not necessary for plant life cycle, still contribute to biochemical reactions such as the synthesis of enzyme inside cells.”

Azolyte has been registered in Taiwan and is looking for distributors in the overseas markets.
