“New varieties are playing an important role for Mexico and will be responsible for the increased volume this year,” said Caballero.
He noted that projected volume for 2025 will still be lower than 2023, which saw a total of 25.159 million boxes and a stronger start to the early varieties.
This year, initial shipments of early green varieties are expected to commence May 19, with Red Seedless kicking off a week later.
While still a relatively minor part of the overall volume, Caballero said volume of Candy varieties is continuing to grow, with 2025 expected to eclipse 1.4 million boxes, up from 2024’s 1.035 million boxes and the 734,790 shipped in 2023.
