The Ethical Charter Implementation Program has released its first annual industry report, showcasing significant strides in supplier and grower engagement across the fresh produce supply chain.

Sunny Valley International has long been a supplier of imported and domestic blueberries, with strong supplies in the category 12-months a year thanks to winter programs out of Peru, Chile and other sources of origin, and spring programs in Georgia and North Carolina.

This week U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Pharr International Bridge cargo facility intercepted alleged methamphetamine, with an estimated street value of $6.74 million concealed in a shipment manifested as tomatillos.

“The cargo environment continues to be a top choice for trafficking organizations, but our CBP officers along with our tools and technology are a force to be reckoned with,” said Port Director Carlos Rodriguez, Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry.

Blueberries are Sonny Boy Produce’s most important item, as the company ships more blues than all of its other items combined, regularly doing around 6.5 million pounds of blues in a year. 

The Eastern Produce Council hosted its 50th annual golf outing June 10 at Fox Hollow Golf Club in Branchburg, NJ.  

For the second consecutive year, the International Fresh Produce Association’s Washington Conference took place in June (instead of September), bringing together industry leaders, policymakers and advocates to champion and safeguard the future of fresh produce.
