Bozzuto's Inc. celebrates 75th anniversary
MASHANTUCKET, CT — Bozzuto's Inc. celebrated its 75th anniversary at the company's Independent Retailer Conference, held Tuesday, March 3, and Wednesday, March 4, at Foxwoods, here. The milestone event featured a trade show during both afternoons and a dinner dance gala Tuesday evening.
The wholesale grocer was founded in Waterbury, CT, when Adam J. Bozzuto began distributing sugar and flour surplus from his grandfather's retail store, John Bozzuto & Sons, according to company literature. The company moved to Cheshire, CT, in 1963. Adam Bozzuto died in 2002 at the age of 88.
During the gala, a number of Bozzuto's executives shared their memories of working at the company and especially working with Adam Bozzuto, who was noted for his "very caring nature." The company is currently headed by Adam's son Michael A. Bozzuto, who is chairman, president and chief executive officer.
