Mission bolsters summer avocado, mango sourcing
This year Mission Produce Inc. will have its most diverse summer sourcing strategy yet. With a plentiful California season and expanding grower relationships in Mexico, Mission is leveraging its global sourcing capabilities to supply the world’s finest avocados and mangos from California, Mexico, Peru and Colombia this summer.
"With Mission’s diversified sourcing strategy, we are in a prime position to supply our customers with the ‘cream of the crop’ across our global growing network,” said Diana McClean, director of marketing. “As the go-to supplier, we leverage our deep-rooted grower relationships and state-of-the-art infrastructure to provide a reliable, year-round supply of high-quality avocados and mangos. And as the go-to strategic partner, we pull our products through at retail with data-driven programs that support avocado and mango category growth.”
Mission Produce sources the world’s finest avocados and mangos from more than 14 origins year-round. The company recently updated its sourcing webpages for California, Mexico and Peru to describe the many benefits of each origin for its avocado and mango programs.
“When it comes to avocado opportunities, bags continue to be a trending topic as one of the key drivers of the category,” said McClean. “In a recent study by the Hass Avocado Board, bagged avocado dollar sales increased by 68 percent from 2019 to 2022, now making up nearly 25 percent of total avocado category dollars. Bags are becoming an increasingly important part of a successful avocado program — and they happen to be a profitable way to leverage supply availability from our diverse sourcing regions.”
Mission’s consumer-friendly bagged avocado offerings include various counts of the World’s Finest (conventional and organic), Jumbos, Minis (conventional and organic), Gems and Emeralds in the Rough. Mission utilizes high-quality avocados from California, Mexico, Colombia and Peru to fill bag programs.
