NYAA continues sponsorship of TCS New York City Marathon
The New York Apple Association will once again be sponsoring the New York Road Runner’s premier event and the largest marathon in the world, the TCS New York City Marathon. Held annually on the first Sunday in November, the 26.2-mile race runs through the five boroughs of New York City.
“This year marks the 50th in-person race, and we are so pleased to be a sponsor of this event this year and every year,” said Cynthia Haskins, president and CEO of the NYAA. “New York state apples are a go-to recharge fruit after exercising, and we are pleased to provide the runners with our apples to enjoy at the close of the race in addition to being a monetary sponsor.”
The TCS NYC Marathon features some of the world’s top professional athletes, as well as competitive and recreational runners, who are all introduced to a vast range of New York apple growers.
“Spectators line the city streets to cheer on the runners while millions watch the live television broadcast in the United States and around the world,” Haskins said.
This year, NYAA debuted its new commercial featuring consumers and New York apple growers airing throughout the week leading up to the marathon and consistently throughout the New York Marathon the day of the event. The commercial will reach millions of viewers both nationally and internationally.
The marathon, which took place on Nov. 7, was seen live on tablets and smartphones through the ABC app in New York and the ESPN App nationwide. Meanwhile, international viewers could watch the broadcast via a variety of global broadcast partners in Brazil, China, Europe, France, India, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, South Africa, South America, Southeast Asia and Spain.
Additionally, the ApplesfromNY logo appeared on mile markers along the way on the day of the race, and it was also included on social media posts on Instagram and Facebook.
NYAA had several New York apple growers registered for this year’s race, including Brian Nicholson of Red Jacket Orchards in Geneva, NY; Todd Seeberger of Windy Hill Orchard in Castleton, NY; and Doug Grout, chairman of the board for the NYAA.
Grout’s brothers, David and Derek Grout of Golden Harvest Farms, based in Valatie, NY, also ran the race. Derek now lives in Russia and flies back to run the marathon along with his brothers each year. Jayne Grout, the mother of the three boys, ran the last in-person TCS NYC Marathon in 2019, pre-COVID-19 with the three boys. She was 74 at the time of that race, and at this year she was excited to cheer her three boys as they crossed the finish line along with their spouses and children.
The NYAA also sponsors New York Road Runners, whose mission is to help and inspire people through running and serves runners of all ages and abilities annually through races, community runs, and walks. Throughout the year, NYRR members and other fitness enthusiasts participate in more than 100 running and walking events in and around New York City, from weekly races to community health events, group workouts, youth programs, and more.
Part of the sponsorship includes providing New York state apples to runners to enjoy after each race.
The NYAA is also promoting its newest commercial on social media platforms in marketplaces where they have retail partners in addition to their geotargeting ads to compliment any retail cooperative advertising.
