Get a taste of Michigan’s early season apple picks
Applewood Fresh, a grower, packer, shipper and marketer of Michigan apples continues to deliver fresh and flavorful apples throughout the Midwest, South and Northeast. They are a leading grower/packer of club varieties, including the early season picks, Rave and SweeTango.
With a portfolio of over 19-plus Michigan-grown apple varieties available, the first club apples to harvest are Rave and SweeTango.
Brian Coates, vice president of Applewood Fresh said, “Michigan-grown Rave are expected to be available Aug. 10 and SweeTango’s initial ship date around September 2.” Michigan’s harvest dates are estimated to be a week ahead of last season. “We are not far behind the West growing regions with harvest timing, as Michigan’s picking dates are roughly 10 days ahead this season compared to last,” he added.
First to harvest, Rave apples have an outrageously juicy flavor with a snappy zing. Michigan-grown Rave apples are picked in the first week of August and remain available through the end of October. Shortly after, the Michigan SweeTango apples make their debut. This limited-edition club variety that is crisp, sweet and zesty is available from early September to the end of January.
Holding a bold start to the apple season, Applewood Fresh supports retail and customers with a multiple pronged approach on marketing strategies. “Although Rave and SweeTango are apples that sell themselves on flavor and quality, we have planned support to our customers with in-store demos and sampling events, coupon engagements and customized content,” said Shelby Miller, marketing and sales specialist at Applewood Fresh.
Becoming the first multi-regional apple vendor through the recent acquisition from FirstFruits Farms out of Washington, Applewood Fresh continues to grow and evolve to become the powerhouse Michigan apple shipper.
