Anthony Gallino named vice president of sales at Cal Giant
January 11, 2005
California Giant announced that Anthony Gallino has been promoted to vice president of sales. Previously sales manager for all fresh berries, and now beginning his 11th year with the company, Mr. Gallino has witnessed tremendous change and growth at California Giant.
Mr. Gallino began working for California Giant in 1994 as a sales coordinator for two of the owners, Bill Moncovich and Pat Riordan, who built the company as a strawberry-shipping organization. Over the past several years, California Giant has been on a steady growth track, doubling in size and ultimately transitioning into a fully integrated company, from plant breeding to growing and selling, with growing operations throughout the state of California.
Initially, California Giant was strictly a strawberry-shipping company, but today the company has a full line of berries, including strawberries, blackberries, raspberries and blueberries. California Giant is also pleased with the success of its Just Strawberries juice drink, which was launched in spring 2004.
As the 2005 season begins, California Giant said that it is positioned with a strong and experienced fresh berry sales team, including Sandy Jurach, John Tietz and Janet Doten, led by Mr. Gallino. When asked if his role would change in 2005, Mr. Gallino said in a Jan. 4 statement, "Definitely not; we are all still here, day-to-day focused on providing the best products to our customers."
The entire sales team is focused on providing service to its customers. "Quality, consistency and service level is what we pride ourselves on here at California Giant," he added.
Management is very pleased with the company?s success and credited Mr. Gallino for his contributions. "Anthony has done a great job over the years, and has grown with the company," said President Bill Moncovich. "He has done very well under Pat Riordan?s leadership in sales, and it's time to let him take the reins."
California Giant?s new fresh strawberry season is already underway as harvesting begins in Oxnard, CA, following the winter weather that arrived just after Christmas. With increases in acreage, packaging shifts with the common footprint, and multiple growing districts and varieties, the 2005 season promises to be just as intriguing as the last 10 seasons for Mr. Gallino and California Giant.
