Industry veteran retiring from Tom Lange Co.

After 28 years of service, Account Manager Tony Machi is retiring from Tom Lange Co., effective Aug. 31.

Machi began his career at an early age at a produce company founded by his grandfather, Machi Produce, while also working alongside his father. After several years spent on the Pittsburgh wholesale market, he joined Tom Lange Co.’s Pittsburgh office in 1989, where he flourished and developed into the company’s top account manager for 15 years.  tony-retirement1-01Greg Reinauer, Tom Lange Co. president; Sam Coombs, vice president of sales for Tom Lange-Pittsburgh; Tony Machi, retiring account manager for Tom Lange-Pittsburgh; and Brandon Machi, account manager for Tom Lange-Pittsburgh.

“One thing I always remember in life, it is just like a house, there are 13 steps from the first floor to the second," Machi said in a press release. "Take your time and take each step one at a time. You will achieve your goals and make it to the top. There are no shortcuts.”

“Tony has always shown a remarkable internal drive to serve others, and build long lasting relationships with his customers and vendors. His complete dedication to the produce business was paramount to his success. We appreciate all of his efforts, and we will greatly miss his passion for produce,” Sam Coombs, vice president of sales for the Pittsburgh division, said in the release.

Machi’s legacy continues with his son, Brandon, who joined Tom Lange Co. in 2000.  Machi shared that it was a dream come true to work with his son for the last 17 years, as it was his father’s dream to have worked alongside Tony.

“It has been a pleasure to work with Tony and the Tom Lange Company greatly appreciates the 28 years of service and dedication. Tony has not only been a valuable part of the Tom Lange Family, he has also been a very generous contributor to the Tom Lange Charitable Foundation,” Phil (Rock) Gumpert, chairman and chief executive officer of Tom Lange Co., said in the release.
