Stephan Schmekel, a 30-year veteran of the Canadian produce industry, has joined the sales team at Vegpro International, based in Sherrington, QC. The addition of Schmekel is part of Vegpro International’s ongoing commitment to strategically invest in its relationships with its partners in Canada and the United States, the company said in a press release.

Schmekel, who will serve as vice president of sales for North America, will work under Prévost, executive vice president of sales and marketing, on a team is composed of Pierre Dolbec, vice president of commodity sales and supply; Steve Appel, vice president of sales; Edward Thompson, sales manager for Canada; Annie Lécuyer, account manager and business development; and Séverine Nault, account manager and business development.
Schmekel most recently was a member of the Del Monte Fresh Produce Team (Canada) for the past 18 years, where he recently held the position of vice president of sales in Canada. Prior to that, he worked for more than seven years at Dole as regional sales manager. He served as chairman of the board for the year 2015-16 at the Quebec Association of Fruit & Vegetable Distribution (AQDFL), for which he was actively involved as director on the board of directors since 2007. He has also been on the board of the Canadian Produce Marketing Association since 2011.
