Meet Guangzhou, China — the City of Flowers

Guangzhou is the main flower production base in China, and internationally reputed as the “City of Flowers.”

Spanning large production areas within the territory, Guangzhou touts a wealth of flower varieties and is the main floral importer and distribution center of the country.

china4 In recent years, Guangzhou has been promoting the concept of “Green Hills and Clear Waters are Gold & Silver Mountains.”

In June of 2018, the director of Bureau of Forestry and Landscaping of Guangzhou Municipality introduced an initiative to make Guangzhou the country’s leader in urban beautification and to exemplify the brand, “City of Flowers.”

The new changes include five key goals:

1. Increase the number of flowers

Recently, Guangzhou has planted nearly 300,000 flowering arborvitae — 100,000 new plants every year, including 17 varieties such as bauhinia variegata, kapok, ceiba insignis and tabebuia chrysantha, among others.

2.Add public flower attractions

In Guangzhou, nearly 100 flower attractions have been built, which have been well received by citizens, praised by the public and enjoyed by tourists, worldwide.

3. Set up public gardens

Guangzhou is striving to improve the quality of parks and public greenscapes and reflect the cultural effervescence of Lingnan. Lignan is a geographic area in the south of the Nanling Mountains. The region covers the modern Chinese provinces of Guangdong, Guangxi and Hainan, as well as, modern northern Vietnam.

Additionally, Guangzhou strives to improve its service level, perfect the supporting facilities, carry out the green project and integrate the park with landscaped roadways and walkways.

 4. Prosper the flower industry

In the future, “Internet+” will be used to expand the production and marketing channels of flower seedlings and establish a state-level flower research and development innovation platform.

5. Hold a flower festival

Guangzhou attaches great importance to the inheritance of the millennium flower city culture, hosting a series of inspiring flower events.
