Agriflor and Expo Flor Ecuador are right around the corner

Agriflor will be opening its doors in Quito, Sept. 19-21 for the 17th time since 1992, which was the first year that Ecuadorian flower growers exhibited at a trade show in their own country.

This year, over 75 Ecuadorian flower producers will exhibit for the first time and many of them are looking to start doing direct business with international flower buyers.

“[It’s a] unique and amazing result to have found so many flower growers in Ecuador that [have] never participated before in an exhibition,” said show organizer Dick van Raamsdonk in a news release. “It is like starting all over again, but then in a high gear.” Van Raamsdonk set up the original Agriflor 27 years ago and believes the trade show contributes greatly to the strong position that Ecuadorian flowers hold in international markets today.

Within the last year, HPP Exhibitions remade the trade fair by searching existing, but non-exporting, flower growers that have never exhibited before. This offers a unique opportunity for international flower buyers to source flowers from new growers. It’s like “tapping wine from a new barrel,” according to van Raamsdonk.

The estimated 75 first-time exhibitors, out of a total 135-plus exhibitors, will display their best varieties at El Centro Exposiciones de Quito, located in downtown Quito. According to the event organizers, the main goal of this year’s Agriflor is to promote the three “mores” — “MORE exports, by MORE growers, leading to MORE production.”

During the same dates, Sept. 19-21, the inaugural edition of Expo Flor Ecuador will take place at the new Metropolitan Convention Center in Quito. Organizers say that 115 exhibitors from Ecuador, Colombia and the Netherlands are confirmed at the time of this writing. You can visit the show’s webpage, Facebook page, or download the app to see the list of exhibitors.
