Hy-Vee’s Rita Peters retires; Susan Jones chosen as her replacement

Rita Peters retired in June as assistant vice president of floral operations at Hy-Vee in West Des Moines, Iowa. She began her career with Hy-Vee in 1988 as a floral manager in Spencer, IA, and for decades she served as the foundation of Hy-Vee’s floral business, according to a company news release.

RITA-PETERSRita PetersThroughout her career at Hy-Vee, Peters served in several different roles, including floral supervisor, assistant director of floral operations, and director of floral operations. In 2001, she was inducted into the Hy-Vee Hall of Fame as Department Director of the Year.

A company statement said Peters has been known as a driving force behind Hy-Vee’s tremendous growth in the floral area. Her innovation and passion for helping stores is what made her successful in her field.

Susan Jones, group vice president of floral/fashion/beauty has been chosen to replace Peters. She has been working for the company since 1994 and began her career at store level. She was a store director at three Hy-Vee locations before being promoted to assistant vice president and her extensive background in retail includes the areas of food service and general merchandise. In her new role, Jones will oversee more than 190 floral shops.
