The Wisconsin & Upper Michigan Florist Association’s 2017 convention will take place March 24-26 at the Chula Vista Resort in the Wisconsin Dells under the banner “To the Future and Beyond.” New this year is a “Flower Chopped” team competition, which will kick off a weekend of education and inspiration, according to a news release.
Main stage designers include Jeff Corbin, an FTD education consultant and owner at Radford City Florist in Radford, VA, whose presentation on “The Daily Grind” will focus on daily designs, shop operations and marketing. Joyce Mason-Monheim, current president at the American Institute of Floral Designers, will feature a wedding show during “Beyond the Bouquet.” Sympathy designs will be presented by Denise Gerke from Destinations by Design in Las Vegas and Alan Masters from Compton’s Florist in La Porte, TX.
There will also be educational hands-on sessions offered all three days along with several business sessions and ample time for shopping at the trade show. In addition, there will be a silent auction and a raffle throughout the weekend.
The WUMFA Design Contest is one of the longer running design competitions in the country and competitors in all categories and themes will receive professional recognition, ribbons, certificates, and cash awards. During Saturday evening’s tropical luau banquet, WUMFA will recognize outstanding industry leaders and celebrate Hall of Fame winners, scholarship winners and design contest winners.
