Trucco to showcase chestnuts, kiwifruit and other holiday favorites

Located at the Bronx, NY, Hunts Point Terminal Market, Trucco has been the leading importer and distributor of fresh Italian chestnuts for decades.

Today it is also well known as a distributor of numerous fresh produce items, dried fruits and nuts.

Customers have come to depend on the company for the outstanding quality of the chestnuts produced by its growing partners in Italy.

Sasha LoPresti, director of business development, said the New York Produce Show, being held this year on Dec. 10-13 in New York City, is special for the company.

TruStar-CutoutUSE The company will exhibit at Booth Nos. 413 and 415 at the trade show event which opens at 10 a.m. at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center on Wednesday, Dec. 12.

“That the show is located in our hometown is in itself special,” said LoPresti. “It enables us to see our existing customers and to also meet new ones. This event has always been a success that has led to new business for Trucco.”

Trucco got its start in 1937 amidst the stands of the Washington Street Produce Market in downtown Manhattan.

The company relocated to the Hunts Point Terminal Market in 1965 where Salvatore Vacca, now retired, established it as one of the leading produce distributors in New York.

Fresh Italian Chestnuts were the staple of the company for decades, until in 1999, Nick Pacia joined the company and began an expansion that saw the inclusion of a variety of products such as kiwifruit, garlic, fresh figs, blueberries, citrus and other items, as well as continuing to offer the traditional items like dried fruits and nuts.

Today, Trucco is one of the biggest importers of a vast variety of branded and unbranded produce from around the world, with distribution centers in New York, New Jersey and California. Its brands include KiwiStar, TruStar, Fresco and Naturi.

LoPresti said Trucco will be featuring several key items at the New York Produce Show.

“We will be featuring our TruStar Italian Organic Ready-to-Eat chestnuts,” she noted. “This is an item that has been growing in popularity for us over the last few years. We are excited to continue to promote it at the show along with our fresh Italian chestnuts, which we always have roasted for attendees at the show. Other items we will be highlighting will be our KiwiStar Kiwifruit and our extensive line of dried fruits and nuts, which are always in high demand for the holidays.”
